New York NY

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles states that you are not required to have a driver license to register a car.

With regards to auto insurance in New York, it may be a bit difficult to obtain car insurance if you do not have a valid drivers license though. Your age, marital status, location and your drivers license record are being considered when getting car insurance. So if you do not have drivers license these insurance companies wouldnt have any driving record that they could rate you on.

If however you have a suspended drivers license, it would also be difficult to find a car insurance companies in New York that will insure you because having a suspended license is considered a risk by most insurers. Also, if you have a suspended license, that means you are not allowed to drive any car so you driving with a suspended license pose liability risks to your insurance company that they do not want.

Obtaining auto insurance in New York without valid drivers license may be possible but you will have a hard time looking for insurers that will insure you. So it would still depends on the insurer’s guidelines. The state of New York just want all drivers to carry the minimum liability insurance required in the state of NY.
